One of the most successful monster film series didn't originate in the U.S. but in Japan. In 1954, the world saw a giant lizard grace, er, rather, stomp across the big screen in "Godzilla," and we've been fascinated with the creature ever since. The movie franchise has produced more than 30 films, with another two films scheduled for 2018 and 2020 release dates, which only proves the franchise will continue for a good while
Tonight an American version of "Godzilla" begins at 8 on Encore. This 1998 film stars Matthew Broderick and Jean Reno, as a scientist and a French agent, respectively, to stop the massive lizard from destroying Manhattan.
