Restaurant Notes extra: Arcos on Dupont Road aims for upscale Mexican dining
Arcos Restaurante Mexicano has filled the former Bandidos spot on Dupont Road, but its owners are aiming to provide a different experience than what Fort Wayne customers are used to.
“We’re more upscale,” said Eduardo Gonzalez, general manager and part-owner. The restaurant opened Dec. 4.
The former Bandido’s at 2868 E. Dupont Road has been totally remodeled.
However, while the look is different, Arcos serves traditional Mexican dishes, said Gonzalez, who has spent 17 years working in restaurants.
“We’re using high-quality food,” he said. It uses flank steak, and the soups use bone-in chicken for added flavor. They cook two to three batches of rice a day to maintain freshness.
They brought in booths and tables from Mexico. However, you won’t see the bright colored furniture that many other Mexican restaurants have. The furniture colors are muted tans.
The restaurant has a full bar and staff have been serving a cucumber and jalapeno margarita.
“It’s fresh flavor from the cucumber but not spicy,” he said.
Gonzalez, who comes from Virginia and still has his family there, likes the community.
“Everybody is so friendly. It’s like a small community.”
