Restaurant Notes: It’s a Hall’s restaurant, just not part of Hall’s Restaurants

When is a Hall’s restaurant not a Hall’s restaurant? When it’s owned by a Hall but not part of the Don Hall’s Restaurants chain, apparently.

Matt Hall, son of Bud Hall and grandson of Don Hall, will be opening a restaurant in Cicero, but it won’t be part of the Hall’s Restaurant system, Bud Hall said.

The restaurant will go into an existing building on Morse Reservoir in Cicero, north of Noblesville, Bud Hall said. Matt Hall worked at the Castleton Grill in Indianapolis, which was part of the Hall’s chain for 23 years before it closed last February.

Bud Hall wasn’t sure if the menu would be similar to the family chain’s.

“There’s just so many ways you can feed people,” he said.

However, the Hall’s chain is known for its juicy prime rib, and we like to go to the Gas House for its Chicago burger, and our favorite, the Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad.

Ivy Tech bakery to open

The Bakery at Kelty’s Kafe will be open Wednesday mornings in February at Ivy Tech Community College’s Fort Wayne Campus.

Part of the Hospitality Administration program’s baking and merchandising class, the student-run bakery will sell cookies, muffins, cakes, bread, rolls, fruit, coffee from Old Crown Coffee Roasters, and more. The students will each serve as the bakery manager for one week, being responsible for the featured menu item, purchase requisitions, inventory control, and financial analysis, according to a news release.

The bakery will be open 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28 in Anthony Commons, Coliseum Campus, Ivy Tech Community College’s Fort Wayne Campus, 3800 N. Anthony Blvd. Enter through Door 50, which faces away from Coliseum Boulevard.
