Foellinger Foundation approves major grants for 3 Fort Wayne nonprofits serving children, families

Foellinger Foundation has issued grants worth a combined total of nearly $1.2 million to three Fort Wayne-based nonprofit organizations that work with children and families in Allen County.

The recipients are:

* Fort Wayne Rescue Mission: $450,000 over three years for operating support, $15,000 for one year for organizational effectiveness work, and $75,000 for one year for limited capital improvement and replacement support.

* Youth for Christ of Northern Indiana: $180,000 over two years for operating support, $13,500 for one year for organizational effectiveness work, and $52,065 for one year for limited capital improvement and replacement support.

* Headwaters Counseling: $330,000 over three years for operating support, $15,000 for one year for organizational effectiveness work, and $67,475 for one year for limited capital improvement and replacement support.

Foellinger Foundation recently also approved one-year operating support grants worth a combined total of $810,000 to 27 local nonprofit organizations that serve various community interests, such as nature, the arts, and business and legal advice. The amounts received by each organization ranged from $5,000 to $75,000.

Foellinger Foundation is a private charitable foundation created in 1958 by Helene R. Foellinger, who served as publisher of The News-Sentinel from 1936 to 1980, and her mother, Esther A. Foellinger.
