Restaurant Notes: Time to get fat at Deer Park for Mardi Gras

Deer Park Irish Pub is gearing up for its annual Mardi Gras, French for "Fat Tuesday."Deer Park, 1530 Leesburg Road, will celebrate at 6 p.m. Feb. 28 with Cajun Skip and his Zydeco Legendary Troupe Band performing.

Enjoy gumbo served with rice, corn bread and doughnutlike paczki for dessert for $8.

Diners will receive a special visit at 8:30 p.m. from the costumed King Rex (publican Tony Henry) and Bacchus (Ryan Lee), the god of wine, to shower folks with beads and to cut the King’s Cake at 9 p.m.

Ivy Tech Special Cuisines

For Ivy Tech Community College Northeast’s next Special Cuisines weekly dinner of the semester, students will serve up an Italian menu.

• Appetizer: Cured meats and pickled vegetables

• Starter: Cantalonian tomato baguettes

• Soup: Shrimp and bell pepper soup with garlic sauce

• Salad: Greek country bean salad

• Entrée: Classic paella with chicken

Reservations are available at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Thursday for the $25 meals.

Dinners are served in the Hospitality Room on Ivy Tech Northeast’s Coliseum Campus, 3800 N. Anthony Blvd.
