Couple found critically injured in home Suspect allegedly fled from Homestead Road home in vehicle OnStar services stopped in Whitley County.

Fort Wayne Police have charged a man with attempted murder and robbery in connection with the discovery of two people found in critical condition at a Homestead Road home Wednesday afternoon.

Scott Leroy Ruse, 50, of Fort Wayne faces two counts each of attempted murder and attempted robbery. Police officers responded at 3 p.m. to 3309 Homestead Road after communications received several 911 hang-up calls from that location, according to police spokesman Michael Joyner. Officers found the two victims “down” inside the residence, according to Joyner, who did not describe what might have happened to the victims described by police communications as “elderly.”

Medics took the man and woman to a local hospital where doctors determined the woman to be in stable condition and the man in critical condition. Police did not release their identities.

Investigators learned a vehicle was missing from the residence. Using OnStar global positioning services, the vehicle was tracked to the Whitley County area. With the assistance of Columbia City police, Indiana State police and Whitley County police, police found the vehicle and tried to make a traffic stop. The driver, allegedly Ruse, led officers on a brief vehicle pursuit before OnStar was able to disable the vehicle bringing it to a stop in Whitley County on Indiana 9 at 400 N. Ruse was taken into custody without incident and taken back to Fort Wayne to be interviewed by detectives.

This incident remains under investigation by Fort Wayne Police and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
