Police name Homestead Rd. victims Man allegedly battered his parents; his father critical.
Police have identified the victims who were battered allegedly by their son late Wednesday afternoon on Homestead Road.
As of Thursday afternoon, Sandra S. Ruse, 71, was listed in fair condition and Gene L. Ruse, 75, was listed in critical condition in a local hospital.
Police went at 3 p.m. Wednesday to the home in the 3300 block of Homestead Road after the communications division received several 911 hang-up calls from that location, according to police spokesman Michael Joyner.
Officers found the two victims “down” inside the residence, according to Joyner.
Police then learned a vehicle was missing from the residence and used OnStar global positioning services to track the vehicle to the Whitley County area. With the assistance of Columbia City, Indiana State and Whitley County police, officers found the vehicle and tried to make a traffic stop.
The couple’s son, Scott Leroy Ruse, 50, of Fort Wayne, allegedly the driver of the vehicle, led officers on a brief vehicle pursuit before OnStar disabled the vehicle, bringing it to a stop in Whitley County on Indiana 9 at 400 N. Ruse was taken into custody without incident and returned to Fort Wayne to be interviewed by detectives.
Joyner said the vehicle Ruse was found driving did belong to his parents and had been stolen from their home.
Ruse was arrested on attempted murder and robbery charges.
The incident remains under investigation by Fort Wayne Police and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
