Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend joining in pope’s Share the Journey campaign
The Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend will join in Pope Francis’ Share the Journey campaign to raise awareness about the struggles faced by people worldwide who are migrants and refugees.
The pope launched the two-year initiative Wednesday. About 65 million people around the world have been displaced from their homes by war, persecution and other problems, the local diocese said in a news release.
Local Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades began observances here by visiting several local Burmese refugee families Wednesday, the news release said.
Catholic parishes around the world also will hold a week of prayer and action for migrants and refugees Oct. 7-13, it said on the Share the Journey campaign website, sharejourney.org.
The Share the Journey campaign is sponsored in the United States by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Catholic Relief Services and Catholic Charities USA, the news release said.
