Woman charged with attempted arson

A woman who apparently was angry her friend did not call 911 allegedly tried to set a fire in her bedroom to get authorities to come to the house last week.

Lenamarie C. Pace, 52, of the 200 block of West Creighton Avenue, was charged Monday in Allen Superior Court with attempted arson, a Level 4 felony, and a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief, according to court documents.

Pace allegedly took paper towels from the kitchen to the bedroom and lit the towels on fire next to the bed with a lighter at about 7:30 a.m. Sept. 20 in an effort to get authorities to come to the house following an altercation with her boyfriend, a probable-cause affidavit said.

The homeowner and resident of the house told police he would let Pace stay at his house when she was homeless and let her stay the night before. He told police he had called 911 the night before and didn’t see the need to call 911 again.

After she allegedly tried to set the fire, she yelled, “You have to call 911 now,” but the homeowner doused the fire and called the Fort Wayne Fire Department, the affidavit said.

Pace allegedly left the property after ripping a screen door off the front door and threw it in the yard, according to the affidavit.
