2 dead, 6 injured in crash in Leo-Cedarville

Passenger van strikes tree, sheriff's department says.

Two people were killed and eight others were hospitalized after a passenger van they were in went off the side of the road early Sunday morning and struck a tree in Leo-Cedarville.

At around 2:10 a.m., Allen County Sheriff’s Department officers responded to the 14000 block of Indiana 1/Leo Road for a reported traffic crash, according to a police news release. When officers arrived, they found that a white passenger van had been traveling southbound on Indiana 1/Leo Road when it left the east side of the road and struck a tree.

The van was carrying 15 passengers and a driver, according to the news release. The front-seat passenger and a person seated behind him both died at the scene and eight others in the van were taken to local hospitals, two of whom were listed in critical condition.

The identities of the dead are expected to be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
