Body found in river by Hale Avenue Bridge

Fort Wayne Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was pulled Tuesday evening from the St. Marys River.

At around 6:50 p.m. people walking near the bridge on Hale Avenue saw a body in the river, according to police spokesman John Chambers. Fort Wayne Police officer were called and responded to the area of the 1700 block of Hale along with paramedics and Fort Wayne Fire Department officers. Members of the fire department’s Water Rescue Team were dispatched to the scene to recover the body.

Investigators were trying to speak with anyone who may have any information regarding the incident, according to Chambers.

The victim’s identity and the cause and manner of death are expected to be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the coroner’s office.
