Fort Wayne Police ask public’s help in identifying a person of interest in September homicide

Fort Wayne Police Department detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman who is a person of interest in the investigation of the September death of Michael R. Wilcher, 51, of New Haven.

The surveillance photo accompanying this story was taken inside the Brass Rail nightspot, 1121 Broadway, the night of Sept. 21.

Anyone knowing the identity of the woman is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP (436-7867).

Wilcher was found about 11 p.m. Sept. 21 lying on the street in the 400 block of Huffman Street, an Allen County Coroner’s office news release said. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died Sept. 23.

The coroner’s office has ruled his death a homicide and the cause of death as blunt force injuries to the head, the news release said.

Wilcher was the 30th homicide victim in Allen County this year.

His death remains under investigation by Fort Wayne Police, the coroner’s office and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
