Fatal Fort Wayne crash victim identified

The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified the pedestrian killed in a Thanksgiving night traffic accident near the Washington Boulevard-Coliseum Boulevard interchange.

Gabriel Michael Hansen, 39, of Fort Wayne, was pronounced dead in the 4600 block of East Washington Boulevard at 6:40 p.m. Thursday after being struck by a vehicle.

Hansen died from blunt-force trauma due to motor vehicle crash and his death was ruled an accident, according to the coroner’s office.

Hansen’s death is the 36th fatal motor vehicle crash in Allen County in 2017.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, preliminary reports indicate the vehicle’s driver was eastbound on Washington when Hansen was struck.

Witnesses reported Hansen was wearing all-dark clothing and was standing in the middle of the road at the time of the crash; it’s unknown if he was walking in the road or trying to cross the road, according to police. Crash Investigators said it does not appear alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the FWPD, the Allen County

prosecutor’s office and the coroner’s office.
