UPDATED: Boy’s death being investigated by Fort Wayne Police

The death of a 2-year-old who was brought to a Fort Wayne Fire Department station for medical help is being investigated by police.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified the boy as Malakai Michael Garrett of Fort Wayne. How the boy died and the circumstances surrounding his death are pending. The boy was taken by family members to Fire Station No. 13, 6727 N. Clinton St., at around 4:42 p.m. Wednesday, according to Fort Wayne Police spokesman Michael Joyner.

“The child was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition but was pronounced deceased sometime later,” according to a statement from Joyner. “We are waiting on a Coroner’s ruling on cause and manner of death. Until that ruling has been made no additional information will be released as this is still an active and ongoing investigation.”

The incident also remains under investigation by the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the coroner’s office.
