Fort Wayne Police respond to shooting, find man dead in vehicle

Fort Wayne Police officers responding Sunday evening to a report of a shooting found a man dead in a van.

Police responded at 6 p.m. Sunday to the intersection of Roosevelt and Winter streets in reference to a possible shooting, according to police spokesman Officer Mark A. Bieker. Officers were told that the possible victim was inside a vehicle just north of the intersection.

Officers found a van sitting along the curb on Winter just north of Roosevelt with a male victim in the driver’s seat in critical condition, according to Bieker. The man was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Paramedics arrived a short time later and pronounced the victim dead.

Detectives were called and began to canvass the area to find possible witnesses. Crime Scene Technicians processed the scene for possible evidence.

The victim’s name and cause and manner of death will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

This incident is being investigated by the police department, coroner’s office, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
