Fort Wayne’s Addison Agen tries to make it into the Top 8 tonight on ‘The Voice’
When you’re on a roll in sports or life, a lot of people try to stick to the same routine to keep the good luck going.
Fort Wayne’s Addison Agen doesn’t worry about that.
“My main thing is just prayer,” she said during a telephone interview last week from Los Angeles, where she was preparing for tonight’s Top 10 finalists show on “The Voice.”
The program begins at 8 p.m. locally on Fort Wayne’s NBC, Channel 21.2.
“I am praying a lot of the time,” said Addison, 16, a junior at Concordia Lutheran High School.
She also has a huge group of people back in Fort Wayne she texts to ask them to pray for her and that she will stay healthy during “The Voice” competition, she said.
Addison has been on a roll, with her powerful voice and emotional delivery carrying her onto the show during blind auditions and through the battle and knockout rounds and playoffs to the live show finals.
Tonight’s show may be the toughest yet, with viewers’ overnight voting scheduled to send home two of the 10 finalists by the end of this week’s results show, which airs at 8 p.m. Tuesday, also on Channel 21.2.
In addition to prayer, Addison said she also draws inspiration from messages she has received from several “The Voice” fans, who said watching her on the show has inspired them to try to overcome a challenge in their lives.
It’s an honor to be an inspiration for others, Addison said. She also is proud of the people she has inspired because it takes a lot of courage to take the first step toward facing a challenge or obstacle.
Addison said competing on “The Voice” has been a great experience for her, both musically and personally.
“I’ve gained a bigger range,” she said of her voice. “My voice has been stretched so much.
“It has made me such a better performer and singer overall.”
She also has gained great friendships and relationships, and now has more people she calls family, she said.
“Overall, that is the best thing I’ve gained from this,” she added.
This week on “The Voice,” the 10 remaining finalists will compete to see who makes it into the Final Eight:
• The Top 10 contestants sing during the performance show at 8 p.m. Monday on NBC.
• During the results show at 8 p.m. Tuesday, seven contestants will be announced as safe based viewers’ overnight voting. The three remaining contestants will compete for a single Instant Save at the end of the show, with the Instant Save winner returning next week and the two others going home.
“The Voice” is broadcast in the Fort Wayne area on Fort Wayne’s NBC, Channel 21.2.
