Editor’s report: This story has been updated with details about the crash.
A victim was removed from a vehicle in extremely critical condition after a crash at Jefferson Boulevard and Engle Road early Monday afternoon.
Fort Wayne police responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries at around 1:35 p.m., according to police spokesman Michael Joyner. Police, firefighters and medics found both drivers injured, one critically. The critically injured man was pinned in his vehicle, which required Fort Wayne firefighters to extricate him, according to Joyner. The driver of the second vehicle, a woman, was also injured, but not critically.
Based on witness accounts, the man was traveling east on Jefferson. The woman’s vehicle was westbound on Jefferson, and as she tried to make a left-hand turn south onto Engle she turned into the path of the man’s vehicle, according to Joyner.
Jefferson and Engle traffic in all directions was affected by the crash. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
