The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating the death of a man whose body was found in an alley Wednesday afternoon and whether it’s connected to reports of gunshots fired in the area earlier in the day and Tuesday night.

Police officers were called on a “man down” report at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday to the rear of a home in the 5500 block of South Webster Street, said police spokesman Michael Joyner.

Officers found a male victim with multiple gunshots who was pronounced dead at the scene, Joyner said. The victim appears to have been dead several hours, he said. His identity and cause of death are expected to be released by the Allen County coroner’s office after an autopsy.

Police had received reports of shots fired at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday in the 5400 block of Webster and a report of a man down at around 9 a.m. Wednesday south of the crime scene, but officers did not find anything, Joyner said.

Whether the previous incidents are related to the death will be investigated, he said.
