A Snider girls basketball player’s family has filed a Fort Wayne Police Department report alleging she was battered by her coach during a timeout at Friday’s game.

Coach Greg Friend declined to comment or say what happened in the alleged incident that he is accused of when contacted by News-Sentinel.com, and details of the allegation are blacked out on the police report.

According to the report filed Wednesday evening, police were called to the 15-year-old girl’s home. Her mother alleged the battery incident occurred at Friday’s varsity game, which was held at North Side High School. The coach “called a timeout because the girls were not playing defense,” according to the report.

Something occurred, which is blacked out on the report, and the girl “told the coach not to touch her.”

The officer called the girl, who wasn’t home, on the phone, and she allegedly repeated the same details as her mother. “She also said that it hurt when he hurt her,” according to the report.

Krista Stockman, a spokeswoman for Fort Wayne Community Schools, said she could not comment on what allegedly occurred or say if Friend was on leave because it is a personnel matter. However, she did say the district is investigating and, as is the policy for any FWCS employee during an investigation, that Friend has not been at basketball practice this week.
