Two people are dead and a third is in critical condition after two shootings minutes apart in southeast Fort Wayne.

The first shooting occurred at about 3:20 a.m. when officers on routine patrol heard several gunshots being fired in the area of Oxford Street, according to police spokesman Officer Jason Anthony.

Officers responded and began to search the area. Within minutes dispatch received a call about a shooting in the 1500 block of Oxford.

Officers found inside a home two male victims who had what appeared to be gunshot wounds, according to Anthony.

Paramedics pronounced one victim dead at the scene. The other was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. A doctor downgraded his condition to critical condition.

At 3:55 a.m., officers responded to a second shooting in the 1400 block of Greene Street several blocks north of the first scene.

Witnesses reported that they heard a gunshot and saw a male victim lying in the grass and bleeding, according to Anthony.

Officers arrived and saw the man had been shot.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office is expected to release the identities and the causes and manners of both victims’ deaths.

Both shootings remain under investigation by police, the Allen County prosecutor’s office, and the coroner’s office.
