An Angola woman was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital after a snowmobile crash Monday in Steuben County.

At 12:39 p.m., Steuben County communications received a 911 call from Chad Straw, 40, of Angola, who said that he had been involved in a serious snowmobile accident at his home on County Road 600 West, according to an Indiana Department of Natural Resources news release.

He said that his passenger, Kyrie E. Kopf, 31, of Angola, was unresponsive from her injuries.

Steuben County EMS, the Angola Fire Department, and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department responded and provided treatment to both victims.

Samaritan helicopter flew Kopf to Parkview Regional Medical Center for her extensive head injuries and Straw was taken by Steuben County EMS, according to the news release.

Conservation officers met with the victims at Parkview and began an investigation at the accident scene.

Neither victim was wearing a helmet, and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
