Freezing rain ends in a number of Fort Wayne crashes

The "Welcome" statue outside Angel Corps, 528 W. Washington Blvd., found it a bit nippy Tuesday morning. Temperatures will be warming up but the statue, a bike rack that was part of the citywide IPFW Sculpture with a Purpose project, might need a parka this weekend when temperatures dip below freezing again. The warmup from the frigid temperatures melted snow that then turned roads slick with freezing rain in some areas of the county.

The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to these crashes 5-9 a.m. Wednesday:

Accidents with personal injury: 3

Property-damage-only accidents: 45

The National Weather Service reported early Wednesday that significant snowfall, 6 inches or more, looks likely Friday night through Saturday over eastern Indiana and northwest Ohio. Other areas will get much lighter snowfall.

A high of 50 was predicted for Wednesday and 57 for Thursday. However, the high will be 34 Friday, 20 on Saturday and 17 on Sunday.
