Addison Agen begins work this week on recording her second album, and she’ll be doing it at Sweetwater. Fans may get their hands on it by this spring.

The expiration date has passed for all NBC recording contract obligations associated with being a contestant on “The Voice,” so she is free to make her own recording arrangements, Addison, 16, said during an interview Friday with News-Sentinel.com.

The Fort Wayne native finished runner-up Dec. 19 in last season’s edition of “The Voice,” the hit TV vocal talent competition.

“They (Sweetwater) have become a big part of my team,” Addison said.

She plans a 10-song album that Sweetwater said should be released this spring.

Addison told News-Sentinel.com previously that her experience being part of “The Voice” inspired her songwriting for the album, including feelings about being away from family and friends here and making new friends on the show.

The as-yet-untitled album will include songs written by Addison and some written by other songwriters, the Sweetwater news release said.

Addison, who describes herself as an indie-folk music artist, will be joined in the recording studio by Sweetwater session musicians Nick D’Virgilio on drums, Dave Martin on bass, Don Carr on guitar and Phil Naish on keyboards, the news release said. Naish and Sweetwater’s Mark Hornsby will produce the album, which will take about two months to complete.

Award-winning video director Nigel Dick will produce a short documentary on the making of the album and a music video to promote a song on the album, the news release said.

After its completion, the album will be available on an Addison Agen website now in development, Addison said. The album also will be sold through Sweetwater’s website, www.sweetwater.com, as well as through iTunes, Amazon and local Wooden Nickel Records stores, the news release said.

Addison had hopes of possibly signing with the record label of Adam Levine, who was her celebrity coach on “The Voice” and performs as the frontman for pop band Maroon 5.

But Levine has gotten busy with the new season of “The Voice,” which begins late this month, and he and his wife are expecting another child soon, Addison said.

“If it happens, it happens,” she said of joining Levine’s record label. No matter what, he’ll be a mentor and friend, she added.

Addison, who sold out two “Welcome Home” concerts Jan. 21 at the Embassy Theatre, said she also has been staying busy with performances and appearances. That has included leading worship services at several local churches.

Her upcoming concerts include:
