VIDEO: Rosalind & The Way signed as first artist on University of Saint Francis’ Marble Lounge Records
Rosalind & The Way signed Thursday as the first music artist the University of Saint Francis’ student-run Marble Lounge Records label will record and release the group’s new album.
Miles Fulwider, USF music technology program director, made the announcement during an event Thursday morning in the Historic Fort Wayne Woman’s Club in the USF Business Center, 826 Ewing St.
The winner, which is lead by lead singer and guitarist Cassie Beer, was selected from among 10 finalists announced in late January. About 50 music artists and groups applied for the opportunity to be signed to the record label.
USF announced the creation of Marble Lounge Record last fall, which is designed to give students real-life, hands-on experience in the music industry.
Students in the School of Creative Arts’ Music Technology Program will record the winning artist’s album at the program’s state-of-the-art recording and performance studios at the downtown campus.
Students in the Media and Entrepreneurship Training in the Arts (META) program, which also is based at the downtown campus, will promote and market the album.
The band also will get to have one of their original songs produced by Rob Mathes, an Emmy Award-winning and Grammy, Tony and Drama Desk award-nominated producer, arranger, composer and music director.
Mathes, who has worked with major artists such as Sting, Panic at The Disco, Yo Yo Ma, Bruce Springsteen and U2, also will spend a large portion of his time working with USF students in the music technology and META programs.
Marble Lounge Records hopes to release Rosalind & The Way’s new album by late April. Students’ promotional efforts for the release are scheduled to include an album launch party open to the public.
