Blazes kept Fort Wayne Fire Department busy in cold temperatures

Fort Wayne Fire Department firefighters had to battle several fires Thursday in below-freezing temperatures.

Firefighters responded to these reports, with the causes of all of the incidents under investigation, according to news releases:

•Responded to a reported car fire at 7:23 a.m. at 1622 Lake Ave. The car was heavily involved and the fire extended to the house next door. The house suffered fire damage to both the first and second floors. They put out the blaze by 7:42 a.m.

•Called to a report of a structure fire at 10:08 a.m. to 3526 South Park Drive, which was under construction. The first crew arrived in 4 minutes and found heavy smoke. The blaze was contained to the kitchen and was brought under control at 10:28 a.m. The fire caused heavy smoke damage and moderate water and fire damage. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

•Responded at 5:27 p.m. to a report of a house fire at 6078 Melan Cove. Firefighters arrived 4 minutes later to find a garage fully engulfed by fire. They kept the fire from getting into the home. A car and all contents of the garage were destroyed. The rest of the house suffered moderate smoke and water damage.

Thursday’s high temperature was 21 degrees.
