Fort Wayne firefighters rescue woman from burning home
A woman was taken in serious condition to a hospital after Fort Wayne Fire Department firefighters pulled her out of a burning home Saturday morning.
Firefighters were called at 9:21 a.m. to 2816 Barnhart Ave. to a reported house fire. Dispatchers had been talking to the women on the phone when the phone was dropped, but the line was remained open, according to a news release. Dispatchers could hear the smoke alarm going off but were not sure if the women had made it out of the house, so they passed the information to the responding units.
Firefighters arrived in 3 minutes and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear bedroom windows of the house, according to the release. While some firefighters battled the blaze, others searched the residence for a victim. They found her and brought her out to medics, who took her in serious condition to a local hospital.
The fire was under control in about 15 minutes. Heavy fire damage was reported to the back bedroom with moderate water damage and heavy smoke damage throughout the home.
No injuries were reported to firefighters. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
