The death of a man found Tuesday afternoon in an apartment on Northcrest Drive has been determined to be a homicide by shooting.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Shaquille Jovon Rancefer, 24, of Fort Wayne. Rancefer died from a gunshot wound, and his death is the seventh homicide in Allen County for 2018 and the second in a little over 24 hours.

Fort Wayne Police received a call a little after 4 p.m. Tuesday from a man who said he found his friend bleeding in an apartment at 4917 Northcrest Drive and believed the friend had been shot. At 1:40 p.m., someone called to report finding a man, later identified as Samuel Douglas Westlake, 37, of Fort Wayne, in an SUV behind Suburban Extended Stay Hotel, at 3330 Coliseum Blvd. W.

Both shootings remain under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the coroner’s office.

Police are asking anyone who might have information related to the shootings to call the police department’s Detective Bureau at 260-427-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867.
