One person rescued from porch roof by Fort Wayne Fire Department during blaze

Fort Wayne Fire Department firefighters helped a person down from a porch roof during a blaze Monday morning.

At 7:12 a.m., the fire department was called to a reported house fire at 1901 Drexel Ave., according to a news release. While en route, units were told that the occupant had gotten out onto the second-floor porch roof. The first fire unit arrived in 3 minutes and was able to safely remove the person from the porch roof taken by ambulance to the hospital.

The fire was brought under control in 9 minutes. The home sustained moderate fire damage and heavy smoke damage on the first-floor living area. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
