Fort Wayne Police collect over a dozen shell casings after man shot and bullets fired into nearby home and car

A man suffered a bullet wound to the heel and several bullets went into a nearby home Tuesday evening in the Village Woods neighborhood.

At 7:42 p.m. a Fort Wayne Police officer was in the area of McMillen Park when about 8-10 gunshots sounded. Soon after, 911 communications received a report of a shooting in the 5000 block of Salem Lane. Two officers found a man sitting on a chair with a gunshot wound to one of his heels, according to a police report.

Meanwhile, dispatch received a call from a home in the 5000 block of Devonshire Drive, two blocks directly east of the Salem Lane home, that reported that bullets had been fired into the home.

Seven people at the home said they were uninjured. Officers saw several bullet holes in the front window of the house and in the door. “We noticed that several of the bullets passed through several interior walls into the kitchen,” according to the report. “We located a bullet projectile embedded in the wall of the kitchen. I also located a bullet fragment on the front walkway.”

Officers also saw a tan Chrysler 300 had been shot multiple times.

Police collected 16 shell casings. Nine were 9mm Hornady and Luger brand; the other seven were 40-caliber.
