1998 - Retired General Colin Powell talks to kids on Thursday, April 9, at the Boys & Girls Club of Allen County. He became an Army general, but Powell wants children to understand that he was just a kid once, too. The back cover of his book shows him at 10, dressed in what he still remembers as "a hideous suit."
1998 - Investigators look at blood on the porch of a house at 3310 Euclid Ave., where a homicide victim was found on Thursday evening, April 9.
2001 - Homestead's Catherine Sprunger, foreground, throws a pass from the ground after being tackled by Holly Stefankiewicz during club rugby practice Monday, April 9. Homestead High School has rugby teams for boys and girls, while Carroll High School has a team for boys. Rugby is one of the fastest growing club sports in the United States.
2001 - Wizards grounds crew members pull the tarp over the field during a rain delay in a game against the Lansing Lugnuts on Monday, April 9. Many new Wizards, especially those from warmer climates such as Florida and California, are adjusting to spring weather in northeast Indiana.
2003 - Construction crews from Martin Inc. of Fort Wayne and R. L. McCoy Inc. of Columbia City guide a 92-foot pylon into its concrete base as they build a pedestrian walkway over Crescent Avenue on Wednesday, April 9. The work caused closure of Crescent between Coliseum Boulevard and Hobson Road, which will remain closed to traffic until Saturday, April 12. The pedestrian bridge will make for safer foot travel to the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
2003 - Carrying homemade signs and using a tree branch for a flagpole, a group of local Iraqi immigrants gathered on Wednesday, April 9, at the Courthouse Green to celebrate the fall of Baghdad. The group waved American flags and held up signs expressing support for U.S. military efforts in their native country. "The boss told me to take the day off," said Hamid Rafeeq, far left, who showed a thumbs-up to passing motorists, while Ali Al Hamaday, second from left, joined in.
2008 - NASCAR driver Tony Stewart met with members of the media to play poker at the Motor City Casino and Hotel in Detroit, Mich., to promote the upcoming Lifelock 400 Nextel Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.
2009 - Children wait for their turn to pick up some of the thousands of candy-filled plastic eggs at Parkview Field on Saturday morning. The Eggstravaganza event was sponsored by Easter Seals Arc of Northeast Indiana.
2009 - Dianne and Doug Crusan of Indianapolis spoke with media Thursday about the hip replacement surgery Doug, a former Miami Dolphins lineman, had at Lutheran Hospital. The new anterior approach to the hip joint enabled Crusan to assume normal activities rapidly. The Crusans opted to come to Lutheran for the surgery with Dr. Steven Fisher because no Indianapolis orthopedists offered the procedure.

2009 -Lead Inpatient Therapist Lori Ruble works with Helen Freiburger Thursday afternoon at St Joseph Hospital. Freiburger is a patient in the Transitional Care Unit which provides short term care for people who do not need the full services of the hospital but still need therapy and medical assistance in recovering from their ailment.
2014 - The Sterling News-Sentinel winner Marissa Melchi, a senior at Carroll High School, publisher of the yearbook works with Sarah Bone during yearbook class Wednesday morning.
