1948 - Eskay Dairy Co., 449 W, Baker St., planned to retire its last two horses and replaced them with delivery trucks around May 1, 1948. The dairy had used horses since 1922, and particularly during World War II on nearly all the dairy's 42 routes. In this April 1948 picture are, from left, Ray Smitley, a driver; John D. 1994 - Minnie Freeman, of North Manchester, in front of Main View, a bar she owned. Minnie is throwing her last party this weekend before she dies

2002 - Rita Geary,sales Associate, directs a customer to the right department Monday morning at JC Penny's. Penny's has restructured its cash registers into pods instead of having one in each department. Although this means less one on one service it means customers can get in and get out sooner.
2004 - The winner of The News-Sentinel's pothole contest, just south of Tillman Road at the northern entrance to the former Southtown Mall, now owned by the City of Fort Wayne.
2005 - Hagerman Construction employees Bruce Smith of Fort Wayne, left, and James Henry of Columbia City, right, cut a maple wood ceiling panel for installation in the new south lobby of the Grand Wayne Center expansion.

2013 - Daffodils are blooming at Foster Park. The heavy rain of the past week seemed to have had little effect on the blooms which seemed to nod in the sunshine Monday morning. Milder temperatures are here, but he rain will be back in the forecast Tuesday ad Wednesday.
2015 - Renovations underway in the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo’s Australian Adventure area include the exterior of the building containing the coral reef and shark exhibits. The zoo opens for the season Saturday, but the reef building won’t be completed until mid-May

2017 - An increase in local income taxes could help provide more sidewalks, which have become more important because of school transportation cuts.
