1954 - E.N. Wedertz, of Tillman Road, closed out a 41-year career with the Pennsylvania Railroad on April 30, 1954 when he piloted the General Trailblazer from Chicago to Fort Wayne. Greeting him when he stepped down from the engine for the last time were, from left, his son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. R.F. Wedertz of 4324 South Park Ave., and E.N. Wedertz's wife. Wedertz started with the railroad in 1913, and his son was also an engineer, starting in 1936.
1994 - Angie Harding leads off of first base for Northrop.
1996 - Dan Lennington, a junior at IPFW, has created his own internet website to bring attention to West Hamilton's incorporation efforts.
1996 - Jason Jensen is home on leave from US Army duty in Bosnia and staying with mom, Janet Compeau and her husband Dan Compeau.
1997 - Three charred and burning bibles lie in the Memorial Coliseum parking lot, lit ablaze by Marilyn Manson fans, largely to antagonize a Christian woman protesting Tuesday's concert.
1998 - Awkward but airborne, a baby horned owl is released back to the wild by raptor biologist Janie Fink Thursday morning in north Fort Wayne.

2000 - The St. Joe River bends around the Canterbury Green apartment complex.
2001 - The San Diego Padres' Tony Gwynn signs autographs during an exhibition game in April at Memorial Stadium. Gwynn says he'll retire after this season.
2002 - Resident Paul McLaughlin tries to coax a couple staff members to get into the pool at the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center, 4900 St. Joe Road, during Paul's weekly Tuesday evening swim.
2003 - Marco Navarro,2, plays soccer with his uncle,Antonio Navarro as his sister Diana,10, watches. They were at the Plex Soccer fields to watch Marco's brother practice soccer with the Fort Wayne Fever Tuesday afternoon.
2005 - Tony Sedlmeyer, Ben Kulow, Kevin Cahill, Justin Munson, Brendo Smith, and Chris LaGrow of Snider hold out their balls Saturday.
2005 - Juan Espata, 17 of Fort Wayne is helped to re-start a dead lawnmower by partial-owner of Lafayette Bait & Tackle owner Darnell Fuqua Saturday morning. Espata, a member of Labor of Love helps mow the lawns of the elderly.

2014 - The Women's Bureau Inc., and Victim Advocate FWPD came together Wednesday for a noon balloon release to remind the public of the survivors of sexual assault. There was a moment of silence before the release. March was National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. Every two minutes in the United States someone is sexually assaulted and 60 percent of all sexual assaults go unreported.
2016 - Indiana Department of Natural Resources fisheries staff used nets to carry rainbow trout to Spy Run Creek from the large tank on the truck used to transport the fish.
2017 - Indiana's Jaylen Butz (North Side senior) slams home a dunk in the second half against Ohio on Sunday, April 30, 2017 during the Nancy Rehm Border Wars game at Saint Francis. Indiana won the game 117-106.
