Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend announces priests’ new assignments

Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend has announced the following priest assignments, effective June 19:

• The Rev. Mark Gurtner, a priest and canon lawyer, to vicar general, chancellor and moderator of the diocese’s Curia, which includes the people and offices that assist the bishop with governing the diocese.

• The Rev. Msgr. Robert C. Schulte, from rector of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Fort Wayne, to pastor of St. Jude Parish, Fort Wayne.

• The Rev. Jacob Runyon, from pastor of St. Jude Parish, Fort Wayne, to rector of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Fort Wayne, and judicial vicar of the diocese.

• The Rev. Jonathan Norton, from parochial vicar at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Fort Wayne, to pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Warsaw.

• The Rev. Vincent Joseph Rathappillil, from the administrator of Queen of Angels Parish, Fort Wayne, to pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Waterloo.

• The Rev. Zachary Barry, from parochial vicar at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Elkhart, to pastor of Queen of Angels Parish, Fort Wayne.

• The Rev. David Ruppert, from the administrator of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, Decatur, to pastor of the parish.

• The Rev. David Violi, from parochial vicar of Holy Family Parish, South Bend, and St. John the Baptist Parish, South Bend, to pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Bluffton, and canon law studies at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

• The Rev. David Carkenord, from pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Waterloo, to retirement status.
