1956 - A span of seven centuries means little to George Knott, 8, left, and his brother, Gordon, 6, who wear the feathered green caps of Robin Hood's Merry Men on May 17, 1956, as they prepare to take off in their X4 space ship, designed and built for them by their father, Morton Knott, and grandfather, George M. Knott. The 14-foot, silvery rocket trimmed in red is "based" in the boys' backyard at 4315 Warsaw St.
1994 - Firefighters from 7 Departments battle a blaze in downtown Columbia City which damaged several businesses and apartments Monday evening.
1994 - New Fury Head Coach Bruce Stewart awaits the next question at a press conf. announcing his hire.
1995 - Police and firefighters help residents escape from a burning building at Centlivre Apartments.
1996 - Hamilton resident Kathy Johns wades back to dry land after retrieving a few more items from her trailer. Flood waters spilling out of Hamilton Lake near her home has forced her and her family's evacuation to stay with relatives.
1999 - Kelley Burnette gives her son Cameron a little advice on how to drive his car Monday afternoon in the driveway of their home in the Holly Ridge Addition. Northwest Allen County Schools are talking about which children will attend the new middle school that is slated to open in the year 2000. Holly Ridge is one of the housing areas that may be affected.
1999 - Work goes on in the future park across from the Court House Monday afternoon. Subcontractors for Hagerman construction worked at leveling and filling the area.
2000 - Jeff Spence demonstrates the "chicken game" to Patricia Goncalves during the beginning of the groups Wednesday night bible study. Spence is about to graduate from Taylor University with a degree in cross-cultural ministry, and plans to begin his work in some third world country.
2000 - Inky fingers hold Anna Verplanck's rendering of Che Guervara. Seen in reverse, the positive image will emerge when the ink is transferred from the glass plate onto paper.
2000 - A state-of-the-art robotics system gathers medications at Lutheran Hospital during testing of the $800,000 system. The Robot-Rx system gathers the medications by reading bar codes on the packaging.
2002 - Mike Gzybowski, founder of E.R. Pals, is determined to continue giving stuffed animals to children in area emergency rooms.
2003 - Members of the Three Rivers Velo Sport bike club head south on Winchester Road on a group ride.
2004 - Store manager Josh Brunson helps Rick Hammer with some shoes at the Three Rivers Running Company -- a store specialiizng in running shoes.
2006 - Students at Bishop Dwenger fill the locker area during passing period.
2006 - Michael "Cheese" Brust, center, joins others waiting in line for the chance to share a moment with Carroll High School grad and June Playboy Playmate Stephanie Larimore at Riegels, Wednesday afternoon.
2007 - Mikey Riley, an MS patient, and his parents, Dianna and Pat. Mikey and his mother are traveling to China so he can receive an umbilical cord stem cell transplant at the hospital in Shenyang.
2011 - Snider's Karina Smith lands an attempt in the long jump finals of the Northrop Track and Field Sectional on Tuesday. Smith won the sectional championship in the event with a jump of 16-feet-10.5-inches.
2012 - From left to right Marjorie Loehr, Carole Cronkhite and Mike Hyndman. Hyndman is trying to sell the house at 3229 Lima Road. Loehr used to lived there and went through it Thursday just to see what it looks like now. The house was the scene of a double murder suicide in December 2011.
2012 - Komets coach Al Sims talks about his contract extension at Thursday's press conference. Terms were not disclosed.
2016 - Curt Witcher, manager of the Allen County Public Library's Genealogy Center and special collections, stands in the genealogy area's new Discovery Center.
2017 - Peyton Simmons throws a pitch in a game yesterday for his Subway majors team at Georgetown Little League on Trier Road. Little league baseball is in full swing across the area as the weather turns warmer with highs in the mid-80s.
2017 - Big Apple Pizza owner Pat O’Sullivan is planning to add his Big Apple Deli truck to events soon.
