Fire damages three Fort Wayne homes

A dozen people escaped safely after an early morning fire damaged a home and the houses on either side of it.

Fort Wayne Fire Department units responded st 12:02 a.m. to the 1000 block of Scott Avenue to a reported house fire, according to a news release. Crews arrived 3 minutes later and found heavy fire on the front of a 2-story home at 1002 Scott with flames extending to the structures on either side.

Firefighters tried to minimize the spread of the fire and limit the damage to the house that was initially involved in the fire. Crews worked quickly to extinguish the blaze and also make sure that everyone was out of the house. Damage to the home at 1002 Scott was extensive while the homes on either side sustained minor damage, according to the report

The fire was placed under control within 20 minutes. No injuries were reported. Broadway was closed for a short amount of time. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
