NewsChannel 15 is losing its second prime-time anchor in less than three months.

Brett Thomas, evening anchor at WANE since 2015, will sign off for the last time Thursday night after accepting a position with Moore & Associates in Fort Wayne, an Ameriprise Private Wealth Management Practice owned by Christopher Moore. Thomas told The News-Sentinel he’ll serve clients as a financial planner and also help with public relations.

“My separation with WANE is amicable and of my own doing. It was purely a family decision,” Thomas said. ” Heather (Herron) always regretted working evenings and missing out on her kids’ activities. And after the birth of my third daughter, Dolly Rae, I felt it was time to embark on a new career.”

Herron, who co-anchored with Thomas and worked for WANE for nearly 17 years, announced in March she would become vice president of corporate communications for Sweetwater Sound effective May 29. She was succeeded by Terra Brantley; no replacement for Thomas has been announced.

According to WANE’s web site, Thomas is an Emmy and Edward R. Murrow Award-winning journalist with two decades of news experience. After working in Lansing, Mich., he moved to Grand Rapids and spent 17 years at WOOD-TV before moving to Fort Wayne to serve as main anchor in 2015.
