Man 'critical' after rescue from Fort Wayne house fire

A man was hospitalized in critical condition and three cats were dead after a house fire Sunday afternoon.Fort Wayne firefighters were called at 2:57 p.m. to a reported house fire at 6515 Woodhurst Drive with someone possibly inside, according to a news release. The first firefighters arrived in 2 minutes. They looked through the bedroom window and saw the man inside and removed him through the window.

Medics took the victim, whose identity was not released, to a hospital in critical condition. Fire crews also went through the front door and put out the fire.

Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes. Three cats died in the fire.

The fire department was assisted by Fort Wayne Police Department, Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, Neighborhood Code Enforcement, NIPSCO, American Electric Power and Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control.
