A man who had threatened suicide and barricaded himself inside a residence surrendered to Fort Wayne Police after four hours Saturday morning.Police were dispatched to the 6800 block of Raintree Road at 7:27 a.m. after the man posted messages on social media threatening suicide. Officers at the scene tried knocking on the door of the home and telephoning to make contact with him, believing that he had a weapon inside. After several minutes of unsuccessful attempts, officers with the department’s Emergency Services Team and its Crisis Response Team were sent to the scene.

Those officers also tried to contact him by telephone and with a bullhorn, this time for a period of hours. After about four hours, the man who had reportedly threatened suicide, emerged from the home and surrendered to authorities “without incident,” police said.

He was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
