Gary D. Stinger, 49, of Huntington was sentenced to nine years in prison, with three years suspended, for the alleged rape and sexual battery of a woman nursing home resident in 2016 in Fort Wayne. Stinger was charged July 28, 2016, in Allen Superior Court with rape and sexual battery of a person who is mentally disabled or deficient. He pleaded guilty Feb. 13 to the rape charge.

The woman, who suffered severe brain damage and mental retardation after being hit by a vehicle, reportedly functions at the level of a 3-year-old, court documents said.

Stinger allegedly performed a sex act on the woman about 10 times from Jan. 1 through May 3, 2016, before he was caught by a nursing home staff member, court documents said.

He told police he was at the Fort Wayne nursing home to visit a relative when he assaulted the victim. When caught by nursing home staff, he reportedly confessed to the assault and signed an incident report stating he had assaulted her, court documents said.
