A Fort Wayne man was charged in connection with an alleged stabbing at a nightclub last weekend. Abraham Hernandez, 28, of the 3200 block of South Barr Street, was charged Thursday in Allen Superior Court with battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony, and criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony, according to court documents.

Fort Wayne Police responded to a stabbing at 10:49 p.m. March 11 at the nightclub La Puerta Negra, 3128 Lafayette St., and found a man suffering from a stab wound to his upper left thigh.

The victim told police he was standing at a urinal when Hernandez allegedly walked into the bathroom and charged him. The two wrestled, and during the struggle, the victim felt his leg was wet with blood. He looked at it and found he had been stabbed. The victim allegedly saw Hernandez holding a knife in his right hand.

During a police interview, Hernandez told police he was attacked first and acted in self defense.

Hernandez is scheduled to appear in Allen Superior Court on Monday.
