A Fort Wayne man received a five-year sentence for possessing child pornography and child solicitation after he said he tried to help a 15-year-old runaway. Douglas Z. Ray, 31, of the 1100 block of West Washington Boulevard, was sentenced Friday in Allen Superior Court to five years — 2 1/2 years apiece — for possessing child pornography, a Level 6 felony, and child solicitation, a Level 5 felony. The terms will be served consecutively, or one after the other. Four charges, including rape and sexual misconduct with a minor, were dismissed at sentencing.

Ray pleaded guilty Feb. 3 to possessing semi-nude pictures of of a 15-year-old girl he also tried to talk into having sex with him.

On Friday, the girl's father testified his daughter suffered severe trauma before he and his wife adopted her from the Ukraine. He said he daughter was "very vulnerable" and engaged in after-hours behavior when everyone thought she was sleeping. The incident with Ray "has affected us ever since," he said.

Ray admitted he made contact with a 15-year-old runaway girl Sept. 5, 2015 on a dating-focused social media site, in which they communicated and shared intimate photos of one another. They agreed to meet Sept. 27, 2015 at McDonald's at Scott and Illinois roads and he took her back to his residence, according to a probable-cause affidavit. While at his home, he began to kiss her, which caused her to "freak out;" he became forceful with her as she begged him to stop, the affidavit said.

Allen County Deputy Prosecutor Thomas Chaille said Ray "preyed on her," by engaging in chats, knowing he was twice her age.

The Allen County Sheriff's Department found the girl Oct. 1, 2015 by checking Internet chat sites she used to find places to stay. Officers also found conversations on another site, in which the girl detailed the sexual encounter with Ray, the affidavit said.

On Nov. 3, 2015, a search warrant was served on Ray's home, where police conducted a forensic download of his phone and tablet, which contained a folder of photos, including some of the girl.

Chaille said the girl's photos were in a folder labeled "girls I have had sex with."

Ray told Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull on Friday, "I did try to get her to go home. My intention was not to sleep with her initially."

Ray has two days' jail credit, and was remanded into custody.
