A woman has pleaded guilty for padding tips she received as a waitress last May and June at a local hotel restaurant.

Brittany R. Stacy, 24, of the 700 block of Columbia Avenue, pleaded guilty to one count of theft Wednesday in Allen Superior Court.

Under terms of the plea agreement, Stacy will serve one year on probation if Allen Superior Court Judge Wendy Davis accepts it at sentencing June 15. Three other theft counts would be dismissed at sentencing.

Stacy admitted she took extra tip money from credit cards during those two months in 2016.

A detective with the IPFW Police Department investigated claims a waitress was allegedly receiving more in tips than the meals were worth at the Mastodon Grill inside the Holiday Inn Fort Wayne-IPFW, after the operations manager received an email from an employee, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

From roughly May 15, 2016 through June 7, Stacy admitted she changed the tip line on 20 customers' receipts.

While 16 customers wouldn't press charges or return phone calls to IPFW Police regarding the excessive tips, four did press charges, the affidavit said.

Stacy also has a prior conviction for criminal conversion, which enhances the seriousness of the theft charges.
