A disciple is a student of a teacher, The Lord, Christ Jesus was the greatest teacher the world has ever known.
At the time he lived he had disciples who learned from him on a daily basis. He chose 12 men at the start of his ministry.
According to the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John his emphasis to these disciples (students) was to make more disciples. Evidence for this emphasis on making disciples is shown by the mention of disciples over 200 times in those four books.
In Matthew 28:19, 20 Christ told his disciples, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, (20) teaching them to observe all that I commanded you and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Notice that he said, “Make disciples” before He said, “baptizing them.” Those who are baptized should be disciples, students of hIs word, according to the Lord, Christ Jesus.
Christian disciples are those people who have repented of their sins and want to learn more about what it means to be a Christian. There is always something to learn, and God has more to reveal as we disciples study his word. God's text message (Bible) contains all we need to help us learn. The second book of Timothy 2:15 says, “Be eager to show yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Are you an eager student (disciple) of the Lord, Christ Jesus? Do you want others to learn more about Christianity?
A Bible with references, such as the New American Standard Bible Reference Edition published by Gospel Light Publications, would be an excellent Bible to study. You could find this on the Internet.
C.S. Lewis said, “You do not have a soul, you are a soul. You have a body.”
