Or that Indiana University Health is testing new technology that can keep hearts used in transplants alive longer?
What’s that? Not interested at all? Way too boring?
Oh, all right, let’s get to the Indiana University story everyone wants to talk about. OMG, they fired Tom Crean!
It was bound to happen, even though the man had three years left on his contract and it could cost $4 million to buy him out. After all, his teams only made it to the Sweet 16 three times, and IU has not made it to the NCAA tournament twice in the past four seasons, including this year. Even more embarrassing, this year’s team lost in the first round of the NIT, the tournament of also- rans to determine the 69th best basketball team in the country.
Sure, he built the team up from rock bottom after the scandals of the Kelvin Sampson era and made the IU program respectable again. But he did not make it spectacular, and he’s sure no Bobby Knight.
“The expectations for Indiana University basketball are to perennially contend for and win multiple Big Ten championships, regularly go deep in the NCAA tournament, and win our next national championship — and more after that,” said Athletic Director Fred Glass in a statement.
Yeah, sure. A university has to focus on what matters, doesn’t it?.
Say, do you suppose they could get Steve Alford away from UCLA?
