LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Thankful for Red Cross volunteers
During this season of hope and gratitude, I want to offer my heartfelt thanks to those who make the Red Cross mission possible. Thank you to our volunteers, who stand ready to help at a moment’s notice to provide care for their neighbors at critical and uncertain moments in their lives, most often after home fires. And when the need arises, they travel far from home to lend support to communities devastated by disasters.
In fact, over the last three months, more than 300 Indiana Red Cross volunteers have put their lives on hold to help in places like Houston, the Florida Keys, San Juan, Las Vegas and Santa Rosa.
Thank you to our partners who share with us a common purpose and community spirit that extends our reach, and helps connect more individuals with our critical humanitarian support here in Indianapolis and around the country.
One notable example of this teamwork is our lifesaving initiative that allowed for the installation of thousands of free smoke alarms in area homes thanks to the collaboration of local fire departments, community organizations and corporations.
And thank you to our blood donors who give the gift of life and to our financial supporters who allow the Red Cross to prepare for and respond to emergencies 24/7.
As I witness my fellow Red Cross colleagues stand alongside their neighbors during this time of great need, I cannot help but feel thankful to be part of this mission.
