Letter to the editor: Send Gorsuch to court

President Trump has nominated Neil Gorsuch as the next Supreme Court justice, replacing the late Anton Scalia. Sen. Todd Young has said he will support Gorsuch, but we have not heard from Sen. Joe Donnelly. His response to constituents is the usual banal response of “waiting to see.”
We must have Judge Gorsuch on the Supreme Court. His experience as a judge, lawyer and clerk to two Supreme Court justices makes him well-qualified to sit on that high court. His temperament and his understanding of the U.S. Constitution will make him immediately effective.
Sen. Donnelly needs to stop sitting on the sideline and get behind Judge Gorsuch. The voters in Indiana want a senator who stands up for life and religious freedom. Hoosiers expect their senators to move this nomination process quickly so Judge Gorsuch can participate in the June Supreme Court Hearings.
In 2018 Hoosiers voters will remember which side of history Donnelly will be on. So for his sake, and the yet unborn, I urge him to support Judge Neil Gorsuch.
