Something is rotten in Denmark, (oops, I mean Allen County). In the past three years, the assessed value of my home has gone up almost 80 percent.

I live in the southeast part of the city. I believe, in the past, the value of our homes were kept artificially low as a way of discriminating against certain groups of people. It is pretty sad when my car parked in the garage is worth more than my house.

Now that the state can only charge 1 percent of the assessed value of a home, the assessed values are jumping astronomically in our part of the city. Pretty amazing.

I only wish my income kept pace with that increase. I wonder in the next three years, if the value will continue to rise. Just maybe, my house will actually be assessed what it is worth.
