The proposed federal budget put forth by the administration of President Trump will drastically curtail passenger rail service offered by Amtrak.
All Amtrak long distance passenger trains will end under this budget. This means that Indiana will lose passenger rail service in Waterloo, Elkhart, South Bend and Connersville and Ohio will lose all of its passenger rail service.
Furthermore, critical grant funding programs for passenger rail and other transportation capital investment will also be eliminated, likely ending the opportunity for restored passenger rail service to Fort Wayne and Lima from Chicago. In order to ensure that Amtrak and passenger rail service will continue in Indiana and the Midwest it is imperative that President Trump, Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, Sen. Joe Donnelly, Sen. Todd Young and Rep. Jim Banks hear from all of us. A truly balanced transportation system in Indiana and the Midwest must include Amtrak-operated passenger trains in addition to our publicly subsidized roads, highways and airports. Make sure our president and members of Congress hear from you about the vital need to fund Amtrak and passenger rail service for Indiana and the Midwest.
