The Rant is The News-Sentinel’s anonymous sound-off forum. The readers’ views expressed here do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of The News-Sentinel. It is sad that, in a year that most any candidate from either party could beat the nominee from the other, that we end up with the two most disliked (other then Ted Cruz) people in America running for president.

(Donald) Trump, you were doing so good. By picking (Gov. Mike) Pence, you lost my vote and many other Hoosiers' votes.

I wonder how long it will be before Mike Pence realizes that Donald Trump will control his every word, every action, every thought. Mr. Pence has really stepped in it now!

The police should've been out on the highways on Friday — lots of speeders! I was the only one doing the speed limit.

Do the teens and young adults ever wonder who picks up all the trash they throw in the street and on other people's lawn? Most likely, it is the senior citizens who have artificial knees and hips, arthritis, and difficulty walking.

We need a federal law making it a mandatory death sentence for anyone who kills a police officer. No appeals and no keeping them on death row for 20 years. Immediate death by firing squad.

Gun control, abortion, global warming, illegal immigration, LGBT, etc. Don't confuse liberals with truth or facts. They are too busy hiding from intelligent discourse ... .

The Bushes, (John) McCain, (John) Kasich and (Mitt) Romney have shown their true allegiance. It is not to the Republican party. It is to themselves and their own interests and desires.

God bless all of those who have suffered in the recent tragedies the world has experienced. But I wonder if etiquette for our flag is being used properly when it is constantly flown at half staff. At this rate, why not keep it lowered and if something good happens, raise it back up to its rightful position.

It's ironic that on the same day the Repubican party approved an anti-gay platform, The Donald (Trump) is introduced while a song written by a gay man (Queen's "We Are the Champions") is played in the background.

Poor Steve Shine. Republicans are not going to get the White House. They are going to lose the senate and the governorship of Indiana. We said the tide was turning to Steve, but he wouldn't listen. Next on the agenda is to rid Indiana of gerrymandering.

The anti-immigrant candidate has an immigrant for a wife. His second immigrant wife. I do not want a first lady who is not born in America. Who vetted her? She comes from a communist family, that is how she was raised and she still believes in communism. Not in my America.

Help me understand. When in high school, taking text out of a resource book, word for word, was plagiarism. The teacher would mark your paper with a “F” for doing it, with a comment that what you did was cheating. Today, Melania Trump does the same thing and her husband denies it, RNC denies it and his political manager denies it, all saying it’s absurd. Everyone is not gullible. Lies are lies, and denying them doesn’t make them true.

(Donald) Trump was not even my third choice. Even my 103rd choice is better than Hillary Clinton!

Looks like not picking Ohio Gov. J. Kasich for president was a good choice — sore looser!

The only worse choice (Donald) Trump could have made for vice president would have been Newt Gingrich.

By chosing Mike Pence, Trump shows that he is anti-middle class worker and disregards the voters' elected candidates.

Are you kidding me, Mike Putz (Pence) for vice president? (Donald) Trump made the wrong choice.

Remember the old cartoon "Chester and Spike." If you are too young to remember it, look it up on YouTube. Spike is (Donald) Trump, and Chester is (Mike) Pence.

When there are problems between blacks and police officers, the same thing is always called for. Cultural sensitivity training for police. Since blacks are a minority of the population, wouldn't the obvious thing be cultural training for them. They should be taught politeness and cooperation with authorities like whites are taught from an early age.

The NRA (National Rifle Association) should tell it's members to keep their guns away from the Convention in Cleveland. Why make the police more nervous than they already are? The leadership of the NRA is not that smart, and their members even dumber. Any bloodshed is on their hands, and they should be held liable for it if it happens.

Thank you "60 Minutes" for the interview with (Donald) Trump and his lap dog, (Indiana Gov. Mike) Pence. Now the rest of the world can see what a phony Pence really is. He is a Christian only to people he likes. The rest can go to heck. The world is laughing that these two buffoons could be in the White House some day. Add Christie to the mix, and you have the Three Stooges.

Germany had a “law and order” candidate/leader from 1933-45. I think he was a conservative and racist. How did that work out?

I'm growing very tired of polls, an alleged representation of what people think, want and how they will vote. Where are these polls taken? How many people are involved in these polls? I've never been asked to take part in a poll, and don't know that I would if I did.

Memo to all you "strict gun control" activists: All you need to do is look at France over the last few months to get a picture of what can and likely will happen when citizens and, even the police in the case of the Paris attacks, are not allowed to carry legally licensed weapons. The November 2015 attacks in Paris took countless more lives than it should have because the authorities had to wait for armed police to arrive. The attackers used Kalashnikov rifles obtained on the black market and smuggled in from eastern Europe. There are now twice as many illegal guns in France as legal ones, thanks to the very strict gun laws. Those laws are a moot point to terrorists and criminals, who could care less about legalities. The anti-gun lobby here in America better take a good hard look at what it deems a cure for the violence we are currently experiencing. All one has to do is look at France to see what could be in our future if this misguided thinking is allowed to prevail. It's right there in black and white if you care to check it's validity.

If you discovered that a 1-year-old boy had been conceived by rape, it would not be OK to kill him. It is just as wrong to kill an unborn baby who was given a soul by God at the moment of conception. Rape should not be an excuse to kill him by abortion.

The gall of the RNC (Republican National Committee) chairman to tell me that I have no choice, that I have to embrace Trump. This moderate Republican will never support a man of hate. I will be pulling the lever for Clinton in the fall. Take that Mr. Chairman.

To the moron in the blue car with a Ball State license plate in a north-side neighborhood chasing pokemon balls, you almost hit a woman pushing a stroller. You never even saw her. I ran after you but couldn't catch you. You are old enough to know better that to drive starring at your lap. Next time I see you, we will tangle. Grow up and get a life.

Why is it in Decatur when you drive the speed limit, everyone rides your tail, honking and/or passing you on a regular street (not a fast/slow lane)? Yet, I'm the one who gets a speeding ticket for going 34 mph in a 30 mph zone! Go figure.

The editorial page asked, "Who is the best candidate to replace (Mike) Pence?" The answer is John Gregg.

People keep worrying that (Donald) Trump will start a trade war. We've been in that war for decades, and never fired a shot. What Trump proposes is that if the greedy foreign nations who have been making a 30 percent profit on us are unwilling to renegotiate NAFTA, that they too will be taxed on our goods. So your Asian import might cost you more — buy American. Fair trade, not free trade.

Has anyone in the Trump family ever done any military service? Have they ever done anything to help those less fortunate that they are? Do the sons wear ties that would pay most Americans' mortgage for a month. The answers are no, no and yes. Vote for a rich family, and you will see that they don't care about America, only about Trump.

Every speech you give from now on, double-standard Hillary (Clinton), will be scanned for plagiarism.

Are you that anti (Hillary) Clinton that you will vote for (Donald) Trump. You know what will happen. The stock market will crash, this I can tell you. Well, I always thought that Republicans did not have any money invested anyhow. The poor voting for the rich guy who looks at you like a mosquito on his limousine. Smarten up for once in your lives.

(Donald) Trump keeps saying that the system is rigged. I agree. It was rigged towards him from the get go. Democracy goes down the drain with him,  ... . I hope that the military rejects his dictatorship should he win.

Watching the Republican convention. It's not surprising that there are Republican idiots in all 50 states. I liked watching them all choke on their words when they said (Donald) Trump's name. What fools the Republicans are. They are trying to elect the worst candidate they have had in the last 50 years, and they all know it. It is going to be a landslide for (Hillary) Clinton, and I hope that the (U.S.) Senate blocks everything that comes out of the stupid (U.S.) House of Representatives.
