Forward Shawn Szydlowski was one player who really wanted to see what the Fort Wayne Komets were going to do about an NHL affiliation. Coming off a three-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres, he still wants another shot to move up.
The Komets added some size to their forward lines on Monday with the signing of center Thomas Frazee and right wing Brett Beebe. Beebe measures 6-foot, 198 pounds, and Frazee is 6-3, 210 pounds. Both are 24 years old.
Former International Hockey League Commissioner Bill Beagan once said, ``Sleeping with the NHL is a little like sleeping with a porcupine. They aren't very cuddly. They are cuddly only when they have to be, when it benefits them.''
In a change in philosophy and direction, the Fort Wayne Komets announced an affiliation with the National Hockey League's Colorado Avalanche and their American Hockey League farm team the Lake Erie Monsters on Tuesday afternoon.
